patricia field and david dalrymple for destination style

by queengilda on September 10, 2008

on sunday night, i had the luxury of attending the destination style show, by patricia field and designer david dalrymple. i just want to say, amazing amazing amazing, and i don’t know who came up with the initial idea of the set, but it was fantabulous and that person is a genius!

(i wonder if it’s my manager at work. he’s fierce!)

it’s been a while since i’ve been to the fashion shows. i attended quite a few when i was in tokyo, (mind you, tokyo fashion week is so damn exciting because the clothing is all art!) but since i moved to new york a year ago, i haven’t had the chance to see how it’s like here. i was supposed to attend a couple more shows this year, but alas, those that i was interested in all clashed with my classes at school.

this is the sad fact of life of a “responsible” (yeah right) full-time student. bah. two absences and we fail the bloody course! damn you, parsons!

so anyway!!! it was a disgusting day in manhattan! it rained all day because of the hurricanes, it was hot and humid, and utterly vile. i wanted to carry a cute little bag from femme sud but settled for a much bigger one so i could put my brolly in it.

i actually recorded the entire show on my camera… although i don’t think i’m allowed to do that. i just really want that soundtrack! i need to get a copy from someone. the staff from the store all got there pretty early. there weren’t a lot of seats and of course only the very important people sat down, so we had standing tickets. we were there way before the show started, and before the bulk of the crowd started trickling in, so we went up to the 2nd floor to hang around and realized we could see everything much better from there, so we stayed put!

there was supposed to be a huge turnout. apparently about 900 people rsvped for a space for 400 people, but i’m sure the rain stopped a lot of people from coming. it still was packed though, and so many personalities were in the house! club kids, queens and hot trannies. oh, and some celebs too. the only ones i recognized immediate were vanessa williams and jack from project runway, but there were a few more that the press went crazy over, and none of us knew who they were! hahahahah!

we were like, “who’s that girl there? the one the cameras are fussing over? wow she’s really posing and giving it to them. who’s she? you don’t know either? well ok let’s just take a photo of her, in case!”

hee hee hee!

so are you ready? pictures galore!

little gift bags

moto + i

one of the earliest celebs to arrive. but who?

this woman who worked for bloomingdales wanted our photo (this is what she took). then she asked, “patricia field. she’s the one who styled for sex and the city right? she’s really amazing, isn’t she?” i had no answer for her. what was she doing there?

lady bunny, patrick mcmullen and andre j

pat with ? and ?. i don't watch ugly betty so i have no clue. 2 hours later we learn that she plays america's sister in ugly betty? she was certainly working those photographers though!

lady bunny getting into all the action with vanessa williams. trick question of the day: how many illegal immigrants, and from which country, is she hiding in her hair? your 5 seconds begins now.

naoko + moto + omar + lyndsay + moi

jack from project runway in first row!!! oh i love him. when he had to leave project runway, he made me cry! and whozzat blond chick next to him? the photogs were after her too. but all of us were clueless! haha!

omar + me

here’s what i was wearing:
+ hat from patricia field (can you just tell that i am officially obsessed with military stuff?)
+ tailcoat by me
+ yellow doll made by my friend (see below!)
+ white tshirt by undercover
+ pink tulle cupcake dress by nadine zlotogora
+ swirly checked tights from patricia field
+ don’t mess with me boots by junya watanabe

the best part of the show for me, were the mannequins!!! they were fuckin’ wicked!!! i helped to prepare them and get them out of their boxes, and if you saw my video, you’ll know that i was part of the clean-up team who had to put them back in their coffins after the show ended. but i’m not being biased – they were wickedddddddd!

the mannequins were placed in different groups on stage. there were the black widows, who faked tears after the rich husband died and you know they want his money, then there were the racer chicks, and then there were the somewhat erm, lesbian girls who were crawling over the floor, and then there were the ladies who lunch! the mannequins were placed in those situations all over the stage, and basically, after the model comes out and walks down the runway, they would go and stand amongst the mannequins, and further act those scenes out! some models cried fake tears over the dead man, one raced a car with wind blowing in her hair, another went to sit with the ladies for tea… it was just awesome with a capitol AAA!

two of the biker chics. and omar posing with amazing bone structure! haha!

i think these mannequins were lesbian. and the girl on the right was sprawled all over the floor. hot!

one of the ladies who lunch! complete with real mini cakes that were so cute and yummy!

the black widows and the dead husband. going to destination heaven. a bit corny! haha! you can see part of a huge dollar sign (made of roses) in the corner there.

moto + ayumi climbing on stage to steal cake

how cute are they! haha! love them.

after the show, the photogs were surrounding pat. then she escapes... and we find her having some peace and quiet, and a piece of cake, with the ladies at lunch. i thought it was hilarious!

i got photographed by quite a few people, two of whom were bloggers (but of course i was stupid enough not to ask for their namecards and i can’t remember their blog urls!). one was from bloomingdales, and she wanted our photo, god knows why! maybe i’ll appear in a window as a mannequin soon. HAHAHAHA wouldn’t that be hilarious? the funny thing was, as i mentioned above, she hardly knew who pat was! i was flabbergasted. lady, if you work for bloomingdales and you live in new york and watched sex and the city and don’t know who pat field is and you come and watch her show and you don’t know who pat field is and you work for bloomingdales and you don’t know who pat field is (deep breath), then what are you doing at her show!!!!!

anyway, i also got hit by some papparazzi woman who came and shoved her camera in all our faces, very rude of her. then i also got photographed by two girls from the guardian from the uk. i went to visit their website at theguardian.co.uk though? and who cares about me, but i can’t find anything on pat at all. haha!

it was cool that i wore what i wore. because a lot of people asked me where i got my coat from, and what the heck it was that was pinned onto it! hahaha! it’s a good feeling telling people that i made the jacket myself. and then they asked about that yellow doll, and i said it’s a doll my good friend made, and it looks exactly like my old teacher at school!!! seriously! i even blogged about it way back when i first started blogging.

well, i say it like i’ve been blogging for super long. nope, i wrote about the doll just last year in may actually! here’s an excerpt of what i wrote back then:

my friend, pero, made me a doll thingy… of our ex-teacher!!!

pero with kano with said doll!

all of us kept screaming and laughing when he pulled it out of his bag, because i can’t explain to you HOW much the doll’s face looked like my teacher!

it was sooooo weird!

seriously! this is creepy stuff!

i’d feel bad if i put up a whole picture of her in high-res and without blocking her eyes, so i had to block it out. but come on, you know it still looks exactly like her. i love it and brought it here in new york with me. i have never had any use for it, i mean, it’s not like i loved her and she wasn’t even my favorite teacher or anything, but we had the best of laughs imitating her back in school. so when i saw that doll just before the party, (it usually sits on top of my dresser, along with photos of my friends in japan), it make me laugh and i thought i just HAD to add it to my outfit!!

so now i’m gonna send those pictures from the show, back to my friends in tokyo. i’m sure they will have a fit! haha!!!

i have a lot of favorite designers from tokyo fashion week and their pictures just rocked my world. i’ll have to post some of my favorites for you guys to see. also can’t wait to see what my idols like rei kawakubo, tao, junya watanabe (all of comme des garcons), jun takahashi of undercover, john galliano, alexander mcqueen, bernhard willhelm, maison martin margiela and rick owens come up with!

what about you guys? have you been keeping up with the shows? is new york week exciting? or is it blah? i’m usually more excited about paris, london, and tokyo fashion week. and couture week obviously. what are your favorite shows so far and what are you looking forward to?

lemme know! hopefully one of you will like some amazing designer i haven’t heard of before and i can learn more about him/her through you! haha! (yes, i AM just making use of you.)

Lady Bunny has been around forever.

What a great time you must have had!

2 joy September 10, 2008 at 10:13 am

what is the name of the older lady with the glasses, sitting behind lady bunny’s hair (in the pic w/ vanessa williams)? she is a local nyc social/fashion figure, but forgot!

i love all the pics! i can’t wait for the new line!

3 joy September 10, 2008 at 10:15 am

wait, let me clarify, not the old lady with the glasses, but the old lady with the giant sunglasses.

Sounds like a great show. I love your friend’s pink dress and belt combo.

5 MollyCake September 10, 2008 at 11:17 am

That doesn’t look like a fashion show, it looks like a effing raging party! You are the luckiest duck! At least I know who Patricia Field is- I should have tackled that Bloomingdales lady and stolen her ticket!

That looks like such a fun show, and your jacket is awesome. I could never sew a jacket, they are so complicated to make. And the doll is great!
I would say I am always interested to see what Heatherette does because their shows are usually pretty theatrical and interesting. But, I agree with you that US shows are usually boring compared with the rest of the world (so focused on sportswear and commerce) and I also really like Galliano, McQueen and Watanabe.

Hey Gilda!

That show looks amazing, I’m looking forward to see footage of the Betsey show. I haven’t been able to keep up with fashion week because I’ve been really busy with school (which sucks!).

I loved your tailcotat and the doll was the perfect accessory!

Kisses.

Damn, I’m too far away from NY! well, I’m 5 hours from it, BUT STILL! If I don’t have a place to crash for the night, I’m not going there…

It looks so awesome and everything! I’m envious.

And good job on the coat. I wish I could see the coat a little better though. Love it nonetheless =)

Love,
Elle

The party looks fabulous, gilda! You look absolutely adorable! Btw, I watched your last video, I didn’t know your name was pronounced “ghil-da”, i always thought it was pronounced “hilda” XD. Silly me :3

i’m not really blown away by anything yet – but i haven’t seen it all, and Rodarte was pretty kick ass. so far, the few shows i’ve seen are pretty, but nothing crazy or fun new. Thuy was very interesting, and loved the shoes. Rubin Singer was really ladylike & lovely – and nautical themed!

Fabulous pictures! Thank you for sharing it with us and letting me live vicariously through you!

12 Dollface September 11, 2008 at 12:46 am

I’m very jealous that you got to go to Patricia Field’s show…although, who is Patricia Field again?? (Just kidding)

Thanks for sharing all those awesome pictures :-)

::sigh:: That sounds like so much glamorous fun…

And yeah that doll is hilarious!

has she? i’m new to new york (haha) so i really didn’t know who she was. i just guessed she must be pretty prominent. she danced along to a lot of songs and got up on stage herself like it was her own show (even crawled on it), so i figured she must be quite a big personality to do that! haha!

+joy+
i have completely no idea!! i’ve seen her picture somewhere before but don’t really know who she is. i wish i knew more of these celebs. but alas, i don’t pay that much attention to the who’s who magazines, unless it’s part of a magazine i actually regularly buy! but she was certainly looking fabulous, that lady! i LOVED her hat and necklace!

+aja+
you mean moto? it’s the carrie belt from the patricia field store! we just got it done recently! :D

+mollycake+
you shoulda! i’ve been talking to a lot of people recently who’ve gone to shows and are going to shows, and it’s amazing who they let into these things! well, I AM amazed! people like that need to be tackled right out! the show was great though, it wasn’t just a lousy runway. it was a real SHOW. and i think pat is all about showmanship! i really enjoyed it.

+elizabeth+
oh i’m so excited that you share my views!!! heatherette was one of my favourites in the new york shows because of how they showed. i mean, i feel like fashion shows are supposed to be fun and over-the-top. like, major! sportswear is fine, but when a runway show starts looking like a boring catalogue, i just want to yawn.

+julie+
i went with gala to the betsey johnson after-party last night! it was fun to meet her and talk, but the party was weird! i got a quick glimpse of the runway video and then came home to see the rest of the collection. i love it! it’s very “me” and i hope money falls from the sky on me so i can buy some. haha!

+elle+
thank you!!! i will find a better photo of the coat and upload it soon! :D i love it; it’s one of my favourites!

+caroline+
hilda?? really? hahahha! but there’s no “h” in my name! ;) some times people call me jil-da which i respond to as well. my dad calls me gilda and my mom calls me gil-da or jil-da depending on my mood. that crazy mother!

+fashionherald+
rodarte always takes my breathe away. i want everything so bad!! rubin singer was nautical themed ehh? i’ll definitely have to check that out then!

+marisol+
you’re so welcome! but don’t be silly, with a name like marisol, you’re meant to live vicariously enough! :D

+dollface+
hahah, i nearly gasped when i read what you said! :) i wish i could have gone to more, but alas, school will not allow it. although i will try harder for the fall collection because i’m VERY into winter clothing.

+annie spandex+
nah, we just pretend it’s glamourous! haha, but it really was super fun! i had a ball. that doll is becoming a necklace soon!

15 Leanne September 11, 2008 at 6:40 am

oh wow looks like you had a wonderful time gilda!

yeh uni is a buzz kill sometimes, esp. when you want to go somewhere but if you miss classes you’ll fail =_=”

your friend’s doll of your teacher is eerie, haha~ i have yet to go to a fashion show… one day…

16 Julie September 11, 2008 at 8:23 am

Money from the sky, we are both in some need of some. Is there a weird dance or something to make money fall from the sky? It sure would be helpful now. I’m so silly but it’s really early n_n.

Looks like you had a fabulous time! Your pictures are neat. I’ve been kind of following NY Fashion, week – it’s hard not to!

I’m looking forward to New Zealand Fashion Week which starts on Tuesday. Do you know Karen Walker’ss work? She showed at NY… getting pretty big. Anyway I love her stuff & she’ll be at NZ too. I’m also looking forward to the the 2 shows I’m going to – Lonely Hearts & Cybele. I feel like a real writer! xo

+leanne+
uni is a BIG buzz kill. and for the amount of homework we have, it’s crazy that we’re only allowed 2 absences! and 30 mins late = absence! even for a 6 hour class. i HATE IT. my friend’s doll is so damn funny ahahaha! and yes, a little eerie too!

+julie+
hahaha aren’t we? some hakka dance must surely work! :)

+amber+
karen walker is showing in new zealand? wow! how come?? please post about the shows you go to and if you meet any spiffy people! :)

+cheray natalie+
that pic of pat is so hilarious innit? she was totally going at it with the cakes, and even posed for a second when i held up my camera. hahaha!

20 Sheena September 15, 2008 at 12:07 pm

Karen Walker’s from here Gilda, New Zealand I mean. I’ll be at NZFW too, eeeee :D
