holy guacamole. it’s been a while since i did an outfit post hasn’t it? i’ve taken so many pictures in the last few months, but somehow i have no outfit posts!
i can’t even count the number of times i’ve worn a completely smashing (if i may say so myself) outfit, only to throw it off when i get home. and then in my shower, the water hits my head and i’m like, “oh shit! why didn’t i take a picture of myself!”
so i remembered to take some shots today. today, after one hot day of running around this old city, feeling sticky and with no make-up except lipstick. today, when my hair’s in a mess, and i have so much work to do my brain’s gonna burst.

i’ve been obsessed with african fabrics and kente weaves for the last few months, and those of you who follow me on twitter would know that i’ve been going crazy trying to locate free-trade african textiles. i love the colours, the prints, the textures, the everything. so when i saw this dress, it was love at first sight! i don’t care that it makes me look like a sack of potatoes. it was probably made for a girl who weighs 40 kg and that’s probably the weight of one of my thighs, but you bet your 40 kg, i’m gonna wear it anyway.
super amazing dress by bernhard willhelm
small beaded necklace from topshop
large beaded necklace from my atelier
dingly-dangly metal tin necklace of a girl from tokyo design festa
9-years old canvas bag from a bathing ape’s baby milo (but it’s the cute baby lisa!)
pink tabi socks
metallic purple tabi boots from margiela
first of all, someone needs to tell me where i can buy bernhard willhelm in new york, or online. i’ve been obsessed with him for the past 5 years. i know he’s sold at seven new york, but is that it? how can he be so pathetically stocked??
and i know you shoe whores need a close up on these shoes. i have another pair of maison martin margiela canvas lace-ups, but these rock my boat! don’t worry, i bought them on a huge sale. if you think i can afford these at full price, think again.

it’s hard to capture in pictures, since i have a dingy camera, but it’s a sort of metallic eggplant coloured leather. is it fine, or is it super fine!!
you know it!

I love drop waists and those shoes are awwesome!
I love those boots! Are they comfy?
+annie spandex+
i think dropped waists are so cute too! somehow they remind of me a child’s dress. maybe that’s why!
+amanda lee+
yeah they are completely comfy! you don’t really feel the toes since it’s just an extra piece cut in between your big toe and other toes. it’s just like wearing a thong sandal or beach slipper, but boots!
Wow, your style is so cool! I guess I haven’t followed your blog long enough to see style posts..but its great! Maybe if decide to do part of the “bartering trade” we talked about, I could draw some pics of you with your favorite clothes.
You look like my characters! And for me, that’s a good thing!! hahaha
Those boots are amazing! Are “tabi” socks/shoes the ones with the separated toe?
Also, I love the retro-inspired drop-waist!
ah! i have no idea what you paid for those margielas, but although you paid only a fraction of the price, i’m still full-on stunned!
That patterned dress is full on fantastic.
I am loving your style! Inspirational!
That dress is gorgeous!!! I so want some boots like that, they are so ninja-like!
OMG. I love your dress! And those split toe shoes. rock!
I love your shoes, split toe, so cute & cool
I wish I bumped into you on the street while you were wearing this, because I would have taken your picture and been all like, “I’m a street-style photographer now, mofos!” You look great.
hey gilda, how uve been. that boots looks like a crabs claw or a hoof from an animal like donkey or horsey. but still looks quite comfy. i love ur dress
wish i had something like such! <3 <3

+limespark+
glad you like it! i’m seriously obsessed with all sorts of prints and clashing colours. haha. throwing the rule book out of the window right there.
+nina+
gasp! you’re too kind. it’s summer now in new york which means i’m sweating like a pig and this was one of the few days i decided i needed to wear a dress i really liked instead of just feeling hot and bothered.
+julie+
completely ninja-like!! i think margiela took it from the ninjas too. even the closures at the back are a copy of actual japanese tabi shoes.
+dreamsequins+

As always, my dear, you look fabulous! I’m still not sure about cloven toe shoes, but you’ve managed to make them work!
Loving your extremely quirky blog. I’m moving to NY in January, and can’t wait to check out the fashion scene there, especially sample sales. I’ll have to get some tips off you when the time comes!
+lauren+
hahah i HOPE i worked them. but heck, you know i don’t care about things like that. poopoooo
+kb
